The modern discussion about AI keeps circling the wrong center. It asks whether the machine is intelligent, dangerous, conscious, useful, creative, ethical, inevitable. are real questions, but they do not reach the symbolic core of what has actually happened.

What has happened is that a major cognitive burden has been externalized.
