The Rig Veda begins with fire.
Not abstraction.
Not argument.
Fire.
Agni is praised first: priest, messenger, carrier of offering, mouth of sacrifice, mediator between human and divine. The oldest hymn-field opens with flame because fire is the visible mystery that knows how to transform one thing into another.
Wood becomes heat.
Butter becomes smoke.
Offering becomes ascent.
Matter becomes relation.
The human world reaches toward the divine through flame.
That is powerful.
That is beautiful.
And it is also dangerous.
