The oldest ritual is not sacrifice.

It is fusion.

Again and again, civilization stages the same drama: two separate things are brought together, named as one, and celebrated as wholeness. Husband and wife become . Colonies become one nation. Crown and body become king. Old covenant and new salvation become Bible. Rock and roll become one sound. Head and body become “me.”

The ritual always promises healing.
